PRE-DISTRICT (WEEK 10)
In a Division 5 District contest between the Frankenmuth Eagles and Yale Bulldogs, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 56 - 0. Muth scored three first quarter rushing touchdowns on a Lleyton Hoard 33-yard run, Riyu Deal 13-yard run, and a Cash Tedford 3-yard run. The Eagle defense continued to shut down the Yale offense contributing to the excellent field position throughout the first half. Frankenmuth added three more TD's in the 2nd quarter. Hoard connected with Dial on a 4th down 35-yard screen pass, Will McCubbin 6-yard run, and Hoard scored his second rushing TD of the game on a 19-yard scoring run. The Eagles had a 42 - 0 halftime lead. On the first offensive play of the second half, K.J. Helms rushed 68 yards for a score to up the Eagle lead to 49 - 0 and Frankenmuth added a 4th quarter score on a 62 yard run by Cade Olgine. Aeden Teschendorf was a perfect 8 of 8 kicking the PAT's . Muth's offense totaled 430 yards of offense with Hoard the leading rusher with 107 yards. The defense limited the Bulldogs offense to 83 yards with Brady Lipka leading the defense with 8 tackles followed by Michael Carter's 7 tackles. Daniel McDermitt recovered a fumble for the Eagle defense. The win setup a District Championship game against Richmond who defeated Armada 14 - 10 . The Eagles will be looking for their sixth consecutive District Championship.
The Frankenmuth Eagles traveled to Armada to battle against the Armada Tigers in a non-conference contest. The Eagles defeated Armada 42 - 14 to end the regular season with a 8 - 1 record. The Tigers went three and out on the game opening possession and were forced to punt. On the Eagles first play, Muth QB Lleyton Hoard threw a perfect pass to Christian Paige who rambled 67 yards for a TD, and Aeden Teschendorf would add the first of 6 PAT's at the 11:18 mark. Armada came back with an impressive drive going 60 yards in only 12 plays when Jackson Malburg scored from 3 yards and the PAT evened the score. Late in the opening quarter, the Eagles punted but the Tigers turned the ball over when Gavin Martin pounced on the loose pigskin at the Armada 30 yard line. The Eagles took advantage of the turnover scoring at the 10:16 time of the 2nd quarter on a Brady Hale 2-yard run. Again, Armada came back with another long time consuming drive as Malburg scored on a 4-yard run to even the score 14 - 14 midway through the 2nd quarter. On the ensuing Eagle possession, a big 67-yard pass play between Hoard and K.J.Helms setup the Eagles at the Armada 13-yard line. Four plays later Hoard would crash into the endzone on a 2-yard run with 2:09 remaining in the 2nd quarter. The Tigers took the ensuing kickoff into Eagle territory but the Muth defense forced a 52-yard field goal attempt that was just wide right giving the ball back to the Eagles with 1:09 remaining in the half. The Eagles put themselves in position to score on a couple key Hoard to Paige passing plays and with five seconds remaining, Hoard connected with Brady Hale in the corner of the endzone for a score and the Eagles led 28 - 14 at the half. With Frankenmuth receiving the opening kickoff in the 2nd half, the Eagles put a dagger in the Tigers, scoring after on a 10-play 80 yard drive capped by a Riyu Deal one yard run. With the score 35 - 14 entering the 4th quarter, the Eagle defense deflated the Tigers in 4th quarter when Cash Tedford intercepted a pass in Eagle territory. Midway through the final quarter, Hoard again connected with Paige on a 43-yard TD pass and the score was 42 - 14. The reception by Paige was his fifth of the game and tallied 203 yards receiving, only the third time that a Muth receiver has had over 200 yards in the receiving category. The Eagle defense forced the Tigers offense to turn the ball over on downs and Frankenmuth ended the game in the VICTORY formation. The Eagles offense totaled 423 yards of offense with Hoard near flawless passing as he was 11 of 13 passing for 318 yards, the 8th most passing yards in Eagle history. The Eagle defense contained Armada's All-State running back Jackson Malburg to 107 yards on 29 attempts. Brady Lipka was the leading tackler with 13 and freshmen Michael Carter had a fine game with 10 tackles. The Eagles now await to find out who they will play in the opening game of the playoffs. The Frankenmuth Eagles Football team hosted rival Freeland Falcons in a contest that would determine the Tri-Valley Red Championship and claimed their 14th consecutive conference championship with a hard fought 27 - 13 victory. The Eagle defense forced the Falcons to punt on the opening drive of the game and Cash Tedford returned the punt 30 yards to gIve Muth good field position. Six plays later, Eagle QB Lleyton Hoard scored on a 4th down five yard rushing score and with the missed PAT the Eagles led 6 - 0. Later in the 1st quarter, the Eagles drove down deep into Freeland territory but turned the ball over on downs. Freeland put together a 13 play - 83 yard drive and scored at the 8:30 mark of the 2nd quarter 1-yard run. The PAT attempt failed and the score was knotted at 6 - 6. The Eagles again turned the ball over on downs and the Falcons drove down deep into Eagle territory. Tedford made a key defensive play when he ripped the ball out of the Falcon ball carrier to end the Freeland threat. The Eagles turned the over on downs near midfield and Freeland scored eight plays later with only 23 seconds remaining in the half on a 8 yard TD pass play on a Heyn to Zander Wheatly play. Freeland would take a 13 - 6 lead into halftime. With the Eagles receiving the ball in the 2nd half, they would answer with a 9 play drive capped off by a Tedford 28 yard run and Aeden Teschendorf PAT and the score was tied 13 all. The Muth defense would stymie the Falcons offense in the 2nd half allowing only 57 yards. The two teams would exchange punts in the 3rd quarter and the 13 - 13 score would enter the 4th quarter. Frankenmuth would put together drive early in the 4th quarter when they converted a key 4th down play on a Hoard to Will McCubbin pass play to keep the drive alive. Tedford would end the possession with a 13 yard run and the Eagles led 20 - 13 at the 5:58 time of the quarter. The ensuing Falcon possession, they were accessed a intentional grounding penalty they forced a 4th and 19 play. The Falcons rolled the dice and decided to go for it deep in their own territory and a fierce Eagle pass rush forced an incompletion, giving the Eagles excellent field position. Seven plays later, Hoard would score on a 1-yard run with 1:12 remaining the Eagles led 27 - 13. Freeland on their ensuing possession threw four straight incompletions and Muth ended the game in victory formation and an outright Tri-Valley Red Championship. Frankenmuth has won 72 consecutive conference games dating back to 2014 and have 42 consecutive home game wins. In the hard fought physical intense game, Frankenmuth totaled 321 yards offense. Hoard led the rushing department 105 yards and was 6 of 8 passing for 59 yards. Tedford had 195 all-purpose yards. The defense leading tacklers were Gavin Martin and Brady Lipka with 10 and 9 tackles respectively. The Eagles end the regular season next week with a non-conference tilt against Armada.
The Eagles football team traveled to Bridgeport and took advantage of numerous Bearcat miscues and soundly defeated them 77 - 6. Less than a minute into the game, E.J. Bernthal pounced on a fumble in the endzone and Aeden Teschendorf's PAT, the first of nine gave the Eagles a quick 7 - 0 lead. Christian Paige intercepted a pass deep in Bearcat territory and K.J. Helms ran in a 6-yard run less then a minute later. Bernthal would score on a 4-yard run, Cash Tedford would return a a punt 51-yards and score on a 24-yard run, Paige would return a fumble recovery 13 yards and Helm's would return a punt 43 yards, all in the first quarter giving the Eagles a 50 - 0 lead after the first quarter. At the 9:45 mark of the 2nd quarter, Lleyton Hoard would connect with Sean McGovern on a 35-yard TD pass play. Bridgeport would score on a 76-yard a Jackson to Motley 76-yard TD pass play. On the ensuing kickoff, Tedford would score on a 79 yard return. On the final play of the 1st half, Charlie Zehnder would intercept a Bridgeport pass and the Eagles led 64 - 6 at the half. On the first play of the 2nd half, Blake Zehnder scampered 59 yards for a score. Jake Felten would intercept a Bridgeport pass in the 4th quarter. Blake Zehnder would scoop up a Bearcat fumble and score on a 36-yard fumble return for the final score. All total, the Eagle defense intercepted three passes and recovered four fumbles. The win gave the Eagles a share of the Tri-Valley Red championship. Next week, Frankenmuth will host Freeland. Freeland has one Tri-Valley Red loss and will attempt to get share of the championship with the Eagles.
WEEK 6
On a beautiful warm evening on homecoming, a key Tri-Valley Red conference game between Frankenmuth and Bay City John Glenn Bobcats ended in a 51 – 12 victory for the Eagles. On the opening possession of the game, the Bobcats gambled on a 4th downplay near midfield and failed to convert, giving Muth great field position. Six plays later, Eagle quarterback Lleyton Hoard executed a 14-yard screen pass TD to Riyu Deal. Aden Teschendorf added the first of seven PAT’s and the Eagles had an early lead 7 – 0. Late in the 1st quarter, the Eagles were stopped on the one-yard line what appeared to be a score leaving the score 7 – 0 after the opening quarter. Early in the 2nd quarter, Brady Lipka stripped the John Glenn ball carrier of the ball and recovered the ball at midfield. Four plays later, Cash Tedford scored on a 2-yard run. The Bobcats on the ensuing possession were forced to punt and on the next play, Hoard connected with Tedford on a 62-yard pass play to increase the Muth lead to 21 – 0. On the next possession of John Glenn, an errant snap on a punt attempt gave the Eagles the ball on the 1-yard line and Tedford scored from there on a run play. Late in the 2nd quarter, John Glenn drove down to the Eagle ten-yard line, but an incomplete 4th down pass ended the threat. Muth took a 28 – 0 lead into halftime. With Frankenmuth receiving the 2nd half kickoff, the Eagles would score at the 8:45 mark on a E.J. Bernthal 7-yard run. At the 4:29 mark of the 3rd quarter, another bad Bobcat snap ended in safety for Frankenmuth. On the ensuing kickoff, Tedford electrified the homecoming crowd with a 75-yard return for a TD. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Bobcat QB Gunner Mezy connected with Bradley Boyk on a 53-yard pass play for their first score of the game. Midway through the quarter, Mezy and Boyk would hook up again on a long pass play. At the 3:06 mark of the final quarter, Dominic Licavoli ended the Eagle scoring on a 12-yard run for the final 51 – 12 score. The Eagle offense totaled 462 yards of offense with a balanced attack of 241 yards rushing and 221 yards passing. Hoard was the leading rusher with 96 yards and was 6 of 9 passing for 197 yards. Tedford had 3 receptions for 110 yards and had 265 All-Purpose yards. The Bobcats tallied 260 yards offense with a minus 23 yards rushing. Griffin Clontz had six tackles and Bernthal, Brock Rowden, Lipka, and Gavin Martin each had five tackles.
In a non-conference game at the Legendary Atwood Stadium in Flint, the Frankenmuth Eagles defeated the Flint Powers Chargers 48 – 7. The Eagles made quick work to open the game when Eagle defensive linemen Luke Purvis recovered a fumble on Powers first offensive play of the game. Three plays later, Muth QB Lleyton Hoard found a wide-open Brady Hale on a 29-yard TD pass play and Blake Zehnder’s PAT gave the Eagles an early 7 – 0 lead. At the 8:06 mark of the 1st quarter, Will McCubbin scored on a 24-yard touchdown run. Less than four minutes later, Hoard would score on a 4-yard run, set up by a 47-yard pass play from Hoard to Cash Tedford. The Eagles would take a 21 – 0 lead into the 2nd quarter. Midway through the 2nd quarter, Christian Paige hit the Chargers QB arm attempting a pass and Broch Rowden intercepted the errant pass at the Powers 11 -yard line. Two plays later, Hoard connected with Riyu Deal on a 15-yard screen pass TD. On the ensuing kickoff, Powers misplayed a kickoff and Muth recovered at the 13-yard line. One play later, Riyu Deal would score to up the Eagle lead to 35 – 0. On the ensuing Chargers possession, Eagle linemen Daniel McDermitt recovered a fumble and one play later K.J. Helms scored on an 18-yard run. The Eagles took a 42 – 0 lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter was scoreless. At the 9:54 mark of the 4th quarter, Helms scored his second TD of the game on a 7-yard rushing play. At the 4:39n mark of the final quarter, Powers would get on the scoreboard on a 1-yard TD run for the 48 – 7 final score. The Muth defense limited the Chargers to 45 total yards. Gavin Martin and Brady Lipka led the defense with nine and seven tackles respectively. Twelve different Eagles had a rushing attempt led by Deal with 78 yards. Hoard was 3 of 4 passing for 91 yards. Muth tallied a total of 370 yards of offense.
Frankenmuth 61 – Garber 0: The Frankenmuth Eagles Football team soundly defeated the Garber Dukes 61 - 0. Early in the game, E.J. Bernthal returned a punt 31 yards down to the Garber 3-yard line and one play later at the 10:06 mark of the 1st quarter, Riyu Deal scored on a 3-yard run to give the Eagles an early 6 - 0 lead. Garber would take the next possession deep into Eagle territory but Brady Hale intercepted a pass in the end zone to keep Garber scoreless. On the very next play, Eagle QB Lleyton Hoard sprinted down the visitors sideline 80 yard for a score and Blake Zehnder tacked on the first of his seven PAT's. On the ensuing Garber possession, the Dukes were forced to punt and Cash Tedford electrified the crowd with a 72 yard punt return. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, sophomore Brady Hale scored on a 8-yard run to increase the Eagle lead to 27 - 0. On the Dukes next possession, their punter in desperation threw a pass that was picked off by Hale who dashed 28 yards for a touchdown. Less then a minute later, Garber fumbled and Christian Paige recovered the loose pigskin on the Garber one-yard line. Blake Zehnder scored from 1-yard at the 8:38 mark to make the score 41 - 0. Again the Eagle defense forced a punt and this time Bernthal took the ball all the way in the end zone for a 28 yard punt return. Zehnder would add his second TD of the game late in the 2nd quarter on a 3-yard run and the score was 54 - 0 at the half. With the Eagles receiving the ball in the second half, freshmen quarterback Brock Raymond sprinted 70 yards for the final score of the game. The Eagle offensive only ran 26 offensive plays for 317 yards. Garber totaled 90 yards passing but had a negative 29 yards rushing for a net total of 61 yards. Eagle linebacker Brady Lipka was the leading tackler for the Eagles with nine followed by Gavin Martin with seven tackles.
Frankenmuth 70 – Alma 21: The Frankenmuth Eagles football team traveled to Alma to play the Alma Panthers in a Tri-Valley Red contest, and the Eagles defeated Alma in a 70 - 21 high scoring game. The 70 points scored is only the fourth time in football history that the Eagles scored 70 or more points in a game. The 56 points scored in the first half tied a record for the most points scored in a half. Frankenmuth forced Alma to punt on the opening possession of the game and Frankenmuth's Cash Tedford returned the punt 66 yards for a touchdown . Midway through the opening quarter, Riyu Deal scored on a 9-yard run and Muth led 14 - 0. On Alma's ensuing possession, Penn Seely connected with R.J. Bielaga for a 29 yard TD pass as the Panthers narrowed the lead to 14 - 7. At the 2:47 mark of the 1st quarter, Tedford rushed 50 yards and late in the opening quarter, Dominik Licavoli scored from 2-yards and the opening quarter ended with the Eagles leading 28 - 7. Early in the 2nd quarter, E.J. Bernthal intercepted a Panther pass deep in Eagle territory. With 7:13 remaining in the 2nd quarter, Lleyton Hoard passed a 53 yard play to Deal to make the score 35 - 7. On the first play of Alma's next possession, Brady Hale intercepted a pass and six plays later, Hoard connected with Jonah Zehnder in the back of the endzone on a 14-yard TD strike. Tedford would score his third TD of the half at the 3:18 mark on a 47-yard jaunt making the score 49 - 7. The Eagle defense setup the next Eagle score when Avery Simmons recovered a Panther fumble at their 5-yard line, and Noah Main scored on the next play. Alma would score with 14 seconds remaining in the half on a Maeto Castillo 2 yard run. Frankenmuth led 56 - 14 at the half. To start the 2nd half, Christian Paige would intercept another Alma pass. It would take the Eagle offense only six plays to score after the turnover on a Main to Licavoli 15 yard TD pass play. At the 3:27 mark for the Panthers, they would score on a Seely 67-yard TD run and the score stood at 63 - 21. The final score of the 3rd quarter and the game occurred with 18 seconds remaining on a Main 49 yard dash. The 4th quarter was scoreless and Eagle's Bray Mort would intercept a Alma pass for the teams fourth interception of the game. The Eagle offense rolled up 542 yards of offense with 407 of those yards in the rushing department. Eleven different Eagles rushed the ball, led by Tedford with 129 yards. Hoard ended the game 3 of 6 passing for 53 yards and Main completed his only attempt for 15 yards. Aeden Teschedorf was 2 for 2 in PAT's and Blake Zehnder was 8 for 8 in PAT's. Alma tallied 251 yards of offense. Paige, Gavin Martin, and Brock Rowden each had five.
Frankenmuth 21 – Swan Valley 14: The Frankenmuth Eagles opened Tri-Valley Red action by defeating the Swan Valley Vikings 21 - 14. Early in the contest, the two teams exchanged punts. Cash Tedford came up with an interception in the first quarter to stop a Vikings drive. The Eagles got a break later in the 1st quarter when the Swan Valley punter mishandled a punt attempt and the Eagles were in good field position. On the next play, Eagle quarterback Lleyton Hoard connected with Tedford on a 34 yard pass play and Aeden Teschendorf added the PAT to give the Eagles a 7 - 0 lead. Early in the 2nd quarter, Frankenmuth was pinned deep in their territory, but four plays later, Hoard executed a perfectly designed screen pass to Riyu Deal for a 20-yard touchdown. The drive was highlighted by a Hoard 61-yard run. Late in the 2nd quarter, Eagle defensive lineman Avery Simmons tipped a Swan Valley pass attempt and Christian Paige intercepted the pass deep in Vikings territory. The Eagles offense was unable to take advantage as they turned the ball over on downs. The score stood 14 - 0 at the half. At the 5:03 mark of the 3rd quarter, Swan Valley narrowed the Eagle lead to 14 - 7 on a Jack Lagan 29-yard TD run. The 14 - 7 score remained entering the 4th quarter. Early in the 4th quarter, Tedford returned a Vikings punt 57 yards down to the Swan Valley 13-yard line. Three plays later, Hoard tossed his third TD pass of the game to Deal to up the Eagle lead to 21 - 7. On the ensuing Swan Valley drive, Tedford came up with his second interception of the game to stop a drive. At the 3:24 mark of the 4th quarter, Vikings Jameson Pelt dashed 27 yards for a score to narrow the score to 21 - 14. The ensuing onside kick attempt by the Vikings was recovered by Will McCubbin of the Eagles. The Eagles were able to run out the clock to preserve the win. The Eagle offense had a balanced attack with 200 yards rushing, led by Hoard's 103 yards rushing and 164 yards passing as Hoard was 9 of 17 passing. with five different receivers. The defense allowed 235 yards of offense to Swan Valley. Griffin Clontz led the defense with seven tackles followed by Avery Simmons with 6 tackles.
Goodrich 17 – Frankenmuth 14: The Frankenmuth Eagles opened the 2025 season by traveling to Goodrich to battle the 2024 Division 4 State Champs in the Goodrich Martians and lost a heartbreaker 17 – 14. The 1st quarter was a scoreless battle as the defenses dominated the action. Midway through the 2nd quarter, the Martians took advantage of a costly Eagle turnover and scored on a Tanner Mazich 41 yard run to give Goodrich a 7 – 0 lead. The Eagles threatened to score late in the 2nd quarter but a Goodrich interception in the endzone ended that threat. The score remained 7 – 0 at the half. At the 1:41 mark of the 3rd quarter, Eagle quarterback Lleyton Hoard rambled 15 yards for a TD and Aeden Teschendorf’s PAT evened the score at 7 – 7. Early in the 4th quarter, the Eagles took the lead when Hoard scored again on a 22-yard run. Key play in the drive was a 3rd down conversion on a Hoard to Christian Paige 24-yard pass play. On the ensuing Goodrich possession, Frankenmuth defensive linemen Carson Bouvy recovered a Martian fumble and the Eagles appeared to be in business at the Goodrich 33-yard line. The offense was unable to take advantage turning the ball over to the Martians. It only took Goodrich five plays to even the score at 14 – 14, scoring on a Mazich 23-yard run at the 5:24 mark of the final quarter. On the ensuing Eagle possession, they were forced to punt. Goodrich went on a 7-play drive and with a mere 21 seconds remaining, Martians kicker Jacob Daggett drilled a 30-yard field goal for the winning margin. Goodrich outgained the Eagles 266 yards to 227 yards. Hoard was the leading Eagle rusher with 72 yards. Hoard was 11 of 20 passing for 123 yards. Christian Paige hauled in 4 receptions for 50 yards. The defense was led by Griffin Clontz with 10 tackles and E.J Bernthal added nine tackles.
